"Schneider Electric Recalls Xantrex GT Series Grid Tie Solar Inverters Due to Injury Hazard"In January 2011, The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Schneider Electric, announced a voluntary recall of the Xantrex GT inverter. They stated "Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product." This recall affected about 25,000 units, manufactured between 2005 and 2010. These inverters may also be labeld with Sunpower and General Electric branding, printed on the front of the inverter.

The hazard was described as:
A component of the inverter can degrade, causing out gassing within the wiring compartment of the inverter. When arcing occurs, gasses could build and force the compartment cover to be blown off. If the cover is blown off with sufficient force it can injure the user or person, or cause damage to property in close proximity to the inverter.
At the time, Schneider offered a replacement circuit board and $250 labor reimbursement for qualified replacements by soalr installers. This program is no longer active, but affected units may still require removal and replacement.
