Solar Remove & Reinstall
Hail in Colorado is a common occurrence, but what happens if you need to remove a solar photovoltaic system for a re-roof project? That’s where Paragon Solar steps in. We serve as a liaison between homeowners, insurance companies, permitting authorities, and roofers to ensure a timely and hassle-free R&R (sometimes referred to as Detach & Reset, or D&R). As knowledgeable solar professionals, you can trust that your system will be handled properly throughout the process.
Typically, when a roof replacement is approved by your insurance, the complete cost of the solar R&R is covered. Solar installation companies will remove the solar array, and once the roof work is completed, they will return to reinstall the solar. Often, when widespread hail storms hit, solar companies are swamped and in a rush to complete as many projects as possible before getting back to installing new systems.
Not all R&R services are equal
The Remove & Reinstall service provided by Paragon Solar differs slightly, but in a couple very important ways. We will not be the cheapest, and we only offer this service on a limited basis to qualified systems. We take the time to ensure all your equipment is in good condition, closely inspect wiring, and evaluate inverter performance. We do not reuse attachment flashing; these are all replaced according to manufacturer recommendations. If your array has critter guards, they are replaced with new screens... on all systems.
Most notably, we include specialized imaging service for your solar panels. Most solar panels are rated to handle up to 2" hail. When a panel is broken by a hailstone, the damage is obvious and will be replaced. However, not all hail damage is visible. A panel that appears fine to the naked eye could have internal damage, such as micro-fractures in the cells that may not become visible for years and can reduce system production over time.
This testing may show that the panels have no damage out of the ordinary. If this inspection does reveal additional internal damage, we will produce a report and work with your insurance adjuster to replace the affected panels (if needed). This service is time-consuming and not offered by other companies. We cannot provide this service for leased systems or systems that utilize particular equipment. If you are interested in Paragon Solar's R&R service, please contact us. We will first need to collect some information about your system to determine if it qualifies. If for any reason it does not, having worked in the Denver area for over 15 years, we will connect you with one of our trusted R&R providers who can offer a quality standard R&R service.
